How I Turned My Passion into a Wellness Business
Sept 26th, 8:00am-9:30am
Chickpea Restaurant, 4298 Main St, Vancouver, BC V5V 3P9
Join us for our first MORNING event at Chickpea restaurant with speaker Andrew Coffey, the founder and owner of The Hive Bouldering Gym.
Who is working in the wellness industry because they are passionate about health? All of us! Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to turn our passion into a business. Which is why we’ve brought in Andrew to share his tips and help you make it happen!
During his talk, Andrew aims to share how he has turned his passion as an avid rock-climber and outdoor educator into a successful wellness business. He’ll explore some of the keys to his success, the most important lessons he’s learned, and a few invaluable suggestions on how to do the same, no matter what your passion is.
About Andrew Coffey
After moving to Vancouver in 2006, Andrew recognized a need for a new style of climbing gym. Having a genuine love for the climbing community, Andrew worked for 3 years in developing the Hive Bouldering Gym, and in 2012 he was proud to share the realization of his vision for a community focused climbing facility with the Lower Mainland. Climbing, Education, Community and Health & Wellness are the central pillars of everything Andrew brings to the Hive. He now owns and operates two facilities, and he dreams to continue taking the Hive Climbing Community to new heights!
Delicious healthy food and coffee will be provided.
Make a note that this is a new location and, being that it’s a morning event, everyone will have things to get to. Please arrive on time!
There are four kinds of events and there are many chances each month for you to participate and meet the EHF tribe. No matter what event it is, the goal always stays the same: to help health and fitness professionals create a successful business by connecting them with each other and educating them on running a business...
Monthly, EHF hosts our main Networking Event in Vancouver. During these events you are able to connect with fellow wellness entrepreneurs and listen to a speaker(s) who run their own successful wellness businesses and want to share their knowledge.
Monthly, EHF hosts workshops with leading business coaches in order to further facilitate the growth of EHF members and their businesses.
FEEDBACK LOOP SESSION
A few times a month we host small group gatherings during which participants get to share their businesses, ideas, goals and challenges to give and receive feedback from the group.
We also have Social Gatherings, where members come together to have fun, get to know each other better, make new friends and celebrate their accomplishments. Social gatherings vary from BBQ to hikes.
September is the perfect time for all of us to be on our A game. People are coming back from vacations and settling back into their routines, which means going back to their fitness coach, nutritionist, chiropractor etc. This is our time to shine, get new clients and launch new projects.
For that reason this month’s Networking night is a chance for all of us to connect, get feedback on our business and gain confidence that we need.
Unlike our normal networking nights, where we have a speaker share their experience, this time each one of us gets to share our knowledge and experience and get valuable feedback on our business.
The evening will still play out as a normal networking night with plenty of time to connect with fellow wellness entrepreneurs, however, you will also get the chance to voice your business questions and get more personalized feedback from other entrepreneurs and business coaches.
To keep the event more personal and make sure everyone has time to have their questions answered, we only have 16 spots available. So get your tickets soon and be prepared to share your journey and ask questions.
For EHF’s 12th Networking Night we are doing things a little different! The August Networking Night will be a Q&A with an expert panel. So how does it work? We will have a panel of 3 Wellness Professionals - a personal trainer, a nutritionist, and a chiropractor. The topic of the evening will be clients. September is getting closer and that means more people will be getting back into their routines, signing up for fitness and nutrition classes, recovering from summer injuries, etc. It’s the perfect time to grow your clientele!
The goal of the evening will be to answer all your questions about clients. How to find new ones, how to find the right ones, how to keep them, how to deliver the best service, and how to connect with them.

Join EHF’s 10th Networking Event with our featured speaker Faris Khalifeh, who is going to talk about how you can amplify your strengths as an introvert and grow your health and fitness business in an extroverted industry.
- Do you feel like your wellness business effectiveness is somehow hindered by your temperament?
- Do you feel pressured to go against your authentic self to get recognised?
- Do you feel overshadowed by your gregarious health and fitness competitors?
- Are you overlooked for business opportunities because of your quiet nature?
A very high percentage of entrepreneurs are introverts, yet the business world often favour the extrovert, the outspoken, bold and assertive. This is especially true for those of us working in the health and fitness industry where high energy, outgoing personalities are in abundance. While many studies have shown that introverts make great entrepreneurs and leaders, it can feel difficult to lead in this often competitive industry of extroverts.
In his talk Faris will illustrate how you don't have to be loud to be a great leader, and you can be impactful by being soft-spoken, quiet and gentle.
This talk is for extroverts as well, as they can gain valuable insight into the introvert's world, allowing them to understand and work more effectively with their introverted clients and community.
- Expose some introvert myths
- Maximize your potential as an introvert
- Strategies that help introverts get more influence in an extroverted world
- Understanding of both personality types which enables you to be a better entrepreneur
- How to close the communication gap between introverts and extroverts
About the speaker: Faris is a Quiet Leadership Coach, named among the Top Six Life Coaches in Vancouver by Crowd Wellness. Before becoming a coach, he was engaged in the corporate world serving clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies. His experience spans industries including education, hospitality, FMCG and automobiles. Faris serves on the Board of Directors for the International Coach Federation (ICF) and teaches at various institutions including Rhodes Wellness College and Spring Activator. He is the founder of Vancouver Quiet Leadership Meetup, which is one of the fastest growing and the only leadership group dedicated to introvert personality types in British Columbia.

*Tickets are sold at the door. Any location, cash only.
What’s a “Health Crawl”?
Remember when you were young and silly and did pub crawls? It’s similar to that, but at the Health Crawl, instead of drinking booze, we drink healthy juices and teas. Instead of listening to someone screaming into your ear, we listen to knowledgeable speakers talk about health. Instead of making random bar friends, we are creating business relationships with like-minded entrepreneurs. Instead of tasting all types of beers, we are tasting and getting to know all kinds of local wellness products.
The Health Crawl is a one-day event that connects exceptional local health products and wellness businesses with those who are passionate about living a healthy lifestyle. We give vendors the opportunity to increase their exposure and build brand awareness, and we give the health-conscious crowd in Vancouver new products and services to fall in love with. The Health Crawl is just another way the EHF group is connecting and building a stronger local wellness community and making Vancouver a healthier place to live.

Despite popular belief....MORE customers does not always mean more money in your pocket.
Most small businesses avoid their financials like the plague - taking an ignorance is bliss approach. If you haven't learned through experience yet - this will surely blow up in your face eventually.
In this session we will face the financial demons together as a group. More often then not they aren't as scary as we think they are when we take our head out of the sand. We will cover:
- Why profit follows when you consistently look at your finances?
- What numbers you must be tracking and why?
- Walk through easy systems on how to track regularly
- Financial planning for 2017
- Talk about tax planning: How much money should you bet setting aside to have enough for the government
Bring that box of receipts you have been shying away from and any financials records or systems you currently use. There will be work space and each person will walk out with their financials more in place and clear next steps.

We'll have a discussion about the major legal issues that entrepreneurs in health and wellness need to be aware of. - When should I incorporate?
- What is liability and how does it affect my business?
- Are my staff independent contractors or employees and why does it matter?
- Why is it important to have agreements that reflect my brand?
- What is a trademark and why do I need it?
- How can I use licensing to generate passive income?

Managing the ups and downs of being a solo serviced-based entrepreneur is challenging. But there are many commonalities we all go through when we chose this career path. The biggest being our “why”, which always revolves around our desire to help other people improve their lives by sharing the amazing gifts we have. The next common connection is how do we build a business to sustainably deliver our services.
That’s where things get challenging and what this workshop focuses around. James Boileau is going to talk about the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur and share ideas and tools on how you can sustainably grow your business. He is going to show you how to take better actions, build a simple forward progress strategy and reduce your overall stress. James will explain the path of least resistance as it relates to business and teach you how to make better, quicker, confident decisions that will propel your business forward.
FREE for members (please send us an e-mail if you want to reserve a spot)*
$20 for non-members
*Seats are limites
James Boileau is a business + life coach, author and designer. He has been an entrepreneur from the age of 15. Since then he's spent over 14 years working in high-level roles at marketing and advertising agencies and has been as a business and life coach for the last 9 years. The intersection of business + personal is where James works with individuals and organizations to navigate its tangled web to better align the personal or people part of business so you move forward on the path to creating the results you seek.
James' biggest accomplishment has been writing a book called Own Your Sh*t. It is about restoring human responsibility. It is a rally point for a new generation settling into themselves. He created Own Your Sh*t because like every one else James constantly asked, “how do you make a difference in the world?” Own Your Sh*t is his answer, and a way to help others create theirs.
Being self-employed is one of the most rewarding feelings - the freedom, the flexibility, the ability to do what you love. However, there is another side of entrepreneurship that we don’t talk about as often - the mental ups and downs.

EHF Vancouver is hosting its 5th monthly networking event! Join us at a thought provoking evening where we discuss the topics of trends, leadership and risk taking.
Being an entrepreneur in wellness industry automatically puts you in one the largest trends right now - the trend of wellness. Within this trend there are countless other trends that keep popping up, anything from yoga and weightlifting to the Paleo diet and freshly squeezed juice. Someone has started each and every one of these trends and someone is reaping the benefits of taking a risk and leading that trend. So the question is, are you ready for the next trend in the wellness industry?
We have invited two trendsetters, Tanya Schneider and Dylan Jones, to speak about their own experiences of leading a new movement. Tanya is the owner of Pure Barre Kitsilano and Yaletown. She opened these two successful barre studios in less than a year and gained a ton of knowledge about entrepreneurship in the field of health and fitness.
Dylan has started a cricket protein company called Coast Protein. Being one of the first in Canada to utilize the more sustainable protein from crickets to make healthy food, he is definitely on top of this newest trend.
During the evening we will discuss questions like:
- How do you pick the right wellness trend for you?
- How do you take a risk to be a leader in that trend?
- Are you ready to take the next step and create a new way of doing and thinking?
- How can you innovate your business or your field of work?
- How can you make a difference?
Taking a risk and leading a trend takes courage and creativity, but if it’s done right it will pay off at the end.
Join us on November 28th at RYU Apparel Store and get your tickets here
Doors open at 6pm and we start at 6.15pm.
We will have snacks and prizes:)
You can find more about Tanya Schneider and Pure Barre Kitsilano and Yaletown here:

We are very excited to welcome Dai Manuel to be a speaker at our next event 'How to Take Your Training Biz Online".
It's no secret: working an 8-hour day is the Holy Grail for trainers and service based health professionals, though very few ever achieve it. Instead, many of us in the health & wellness industries need 13 to 16 hours to bill for 8. Sound familiar? Do you wish there was a better way? Instead of trading dollars for hours, what if you could leverage online tools to supplement your coaching and wellness business? After attending Dai’s presentation, your mind will be filled with a variety of concepts and ideas on how to do just that!
Dai Manuel is a digital thought leader and lifestyle mentor empowering people to lead a ‘FUN’ctionally fit life through education, encouragement and community. Dai models his work on the basis of 5 pillars (4 actually, plus a roof): Fitness, Family, Finances, and Faith with an overarching roof of ‘FUN’ built on a rock-solid foundation of health. Dai is also a dad, dating his wife, a founding partner and former COO of Fitness Town.
The net proceeds from the event goes to the Grind for Kids Initiative in support of the BC Children's Hospital Foundation

Join our group of Entrepreneurs in Health & Fitness Vancouver at the next event 'Building a Strong Community For Your Business - Featuring YOU'.
The goal of this event is to allow each individual to express who they are and the work that they do, so that together we can build a stronger community. A community where we feel understood, heard and acknowledged. A community where we support each other, build each other up, learn from each others successes and failures, and allow each person to be themselves.
In the past we had featured speakers, this time we are featuring YOU. We want to know who you really are, what your "story" is and what your business is about, so that we can build authentic connection with you and support you in the best way we can.
During the event we will have a series of exercises and activities that will help us create deeper relationships, express ourselves and have fun.
The event will be held at a beautiful space - RYU Fitness Apparel store in Kitsilano. We will have beverages and snacks, good music and a friendly atmosphere.
