This may be oversaid, but if you had told me in early 2016 that I would be organizing a community of health and fitness entrepreneurs, I would not have believed you. I have always been extremely passionate about creating a more health conscious world, but I thought that would be accomplished exclusively through my work as a nutritionist. I was always looking for ways to grow my nutrition business and increase my influence. This became especially important when I moved my practice from Toronto and Ottawa to Vancouver. I went to meetups and networking events hoping to get connected with the health and fitness community in Vancouver and to learn more about optimizing my business. Although I made the odd connection here and there, I felt that there was no place I could go to meet people just like myself, self-employed wellness professionals. I wasn’t looking for a group of health and fitness fans, but I also wasn’t looking for a group of business professionals. I was looking for an organization or a community where I could find other entrepreneurs who were both passionate and motivated about building their businesses in health and wellness, and collaborate with them. I couldn’t find this. So, I created it.
But of course, like many others, my story isn’t as straightforward as that. After having completed a degree in finance, I felt confident starting and running my own business. And I did successfully establish my own nutrition practice… after a year of struggle, being broke, sleeping on my parents couch (cliche, I know), and working my butt off. It ended up being way more difficult than I expected. I felt alone and often lost, overwhelmed and confused by the business information available, and frustrated by the unexpected challenge of finding clients. I’ve tried so many things, lots of which I’ve failed, but I’ve also gained a lot of knowledge and experience along the way. Haven’t you? I believe I’m not alone in this.
I created EHF out of my own need, but I’m continuing to grow it because I think our wellness community needs it and our country needs our wellness community.
EHF is a group of entrepreneurs whose passion and work lies in making the world healthier. The EHF community is a tribe of professionals who are a part of each other’s journeys, building a successful health business or practice.
The EHF community facilitates an open, friendly atmosphere where our members feel supported, understood, heard and acknowledged. At our gatherings and events we strive to create a safe environment where the participants feel that they can be their true authentic selves, and that they can open up and share their experiences, challenges and passions.
EHF provides business education which is applicable and relevant to wellness entrepreneurs. Health and fitness professionals are specialists in their field, but this doesn’t always mean that are natural entrepreneurs. For that reason, the EHF community puts a lot of emphasis on business education which can include anything from speakers and business coaches at the events, to online materials and webinars.
If you are looking for a strong, supportive community of wellness entrepreneurs, that’s us! There are plenty of ways to participate so check out our events, Membership Programs and partnership opportunities. Also join our Facebook group and like our Facebook page to stay up to date.
